Our Grading Permit was approved a couple weeks ago, but before we could officially start work, we were required to have a pre-construction meeting with the sediment control inspector. I scheduled that meeting for this morning, and the whole thing took about 5 minutes (there’s a lot of process in my county, but at least everyone associated with building and inspections is tremendously friendly and easy to work with). He essentially just wanted to make sure that we knew the process around getting Sediment Control inspections and around getting our Bio-Retention Pond inspected when that work is complete.
He also handed us our Grading Permit:

Once we get sediment control measures installed, we’ll call in the inspection, he’ll take a quick look, and assuming everything is good, he’ll have them release our building permit.

It’s basically a way to take much of the rainwater that is coming off of our roof, and filter it for pollutants before directing it to the storm drain at the street. This is requirement in many areas these days as part of new construction.
