Week 2: Schedule

by J Scott on June 23, 2014

Week #1 of construction was busy (and a success!). Week #2 is shaping up to be a little bit less busy, but hopefully just as productive.

During Week #2, we plan on starting the concrete work, which requires more upfront prep and more time on the back-end to dry/cure. Here is what we’re looking like in terms of schedule for this week:

  1. Mark Footer Locations: On Monday, our foundation company will be out to mark the location for the concrete footers.
  2. Install Footer Forms: On Tuesday morning, the foundation company will be installing the molds (“forms”) for the footers around the base of the foundation. These are the molds that will be used to shape the poured concrete footers.
  3. Inspect Footers: After installing the forms, we’ll have either the county inspector or a private inspector out to inspect the footings and sign-off.
  4. Pour Concrete for Footers: On Tuesday afternoon, weather permitting, we’ll pour concrete for the footers.
  5. Remove Footer Forms: On Tuesday evening or Wednesday, we’ll remove the footer forms.
  6. Pin Footers: On Wednesday, we’ll have our surveyors out to verify the location of the footers and mark the location for the foundation walls.
  7. Mark Locations for Water/Sewer Sleeves: On Wednesday, our plumbing company will come out to determine exactly where the water and sewer lines should enter through the basement foundation walls. Because we’re pouring concrete walls, we’ll need to put “sleeves” in the right location that will create holes in the foundation wall for the water and sewer lines to come into the basement.
  8. Install Wall Forms: On Thursday morning, the foundation company will be installing the molds for the foundation walls. These are the molds that will be used to shape the basement walls of the house.
  9. Pour Concrete for Walls: On Thursday afternoon, we’ll pour the concrete for the walls.
  10. Remove Wall Forms: On Friday, we’ll remove the wall forms, at which point we’ll have completed foundation walls.

Assuming we can accomplish all that this week, we should be prepared to spend week #3 focused on finishing the foundation work — waterproofing, running foundation drains, termite treatments, pouring the slabs, etc.
